This was my final hike for this trip. I left Twelvemile Beach Trailhead and hiked about three miles to the wilderness area boundary. From there, I hiked another three miles into the area, which was mostly forest with an occasional nice view of Lake Superior. The tread was soft/sandy in several places, which made for somewhat tough hiking but, other than that, it was a great hike. I was able to take a 30-minute break at one point and set up my hammock and took a quick rest there. There were signs of a lot of bear activity in the area but I never did see one—which is just as well.
Overall this was a wonderful trip. I didn’t get a chance to explore the area much, but I did cover more than half of the North Country Trail as it runs through Pictured Rocks. I’m not sure that I would come back to this spot specifically, but I’d definitely like to explore the Upper Peninsula some more.
