Nice hike on two trails leaving from Log Slide Trailhead in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. First was a nice out-and-back to the Au Sable Lightstation. This trail started high above Lake Superior and eventually dropped down, making for a pretty steep return trip. There were several footbridges over some marshy areas and a couple of cutouts in the cliff—one bridge was about 18″ wide with no handrails and carried me over a 40-foot drop. I was not especially happy having to cross that one twice! The waves on Lake Superior are incredibly rough
The second hike left westbound from the same trailhead and took me to a spot high above Grand Sable Lake. This was a more familiar-feeling hike—very much like Wisconsin with the final destination being a beautiful lake surrounded by colorful trees. I saw three deer, lots of small birds and dozens of chipmunks…the latter were all very busy prepping for the upcoming winter.
